Stephan Jarl
Stephan Jarl has been playing drums and percussion for more than 25 years. After beginning with rock music in the Malmö band Rosa Luxemburg, he soon met folk music and their rhythms from all over the world. The interest for flamenco made him take part in traditional flamenco and fusion groups in Denmark and Sweden. Jarl lives in Malmö.
Jarl plays percussion with Selene Muñoz in different projects and constellations since 2012 to present day. Classical and contemporary music and dance influence this flamenco. With Selene Muñoz Company, Jarl has been in New York City at Cervantes Theatre (2017), in Moscow at Svetlanov Music Hall (2018-2019), in Istanbul at Grand Theatre (2018-2019), and in Copenhagen at Royal Danish Theatre and Bellevue Theatre (2012-2018), Esplanade Theatre in Singapore (2019), to mention a few places. With Selene Muñoz he also have appeared in live broadcasting television in Denmark, ’Kronprinsparrets priser’ and ’Vild med dans’ (2012).
In the swedish group Tarabband, Jarl played arabic fusion (2009-2015). With album recordings and tours and shows in Sweden, Denmark, Ethiopia, Zanzibar and Egypt among other places.
Stephan Jarl has experience as studio percussionist at producer Tore Johansson’s studio - Anouk, Bob Hund, Nicole Atkins, et.al. Malmö, Sweden. (2008 to present day)
Another collaboration is with Claes Ottelid and the record Alonso’s tune, and tours in Sweden (from 2012) and Spain (2019). New album recordings at present day (2021)
Sevdalini, Bosnian Malmö band, where Jarl plays today and participate at their latest record release (2020). Plans for release tour in Balkan and Scandinavia (2022). Jarl also recorded and appears in Mikael Wiehe´s coming album (2021)
Teaching flamenco percussion (2005 to present day) at El Duende Copenhagen, Nordic Flamenco Festival Sthlm, Malmö Flamencoförening El Planeta et.al.
